Sullia, Jan 9: In connection with the KSRTC bus–scooter accident that occurred on November 12, 2024, on the Sullia–Ubaradka road, in which a student lost her life and another student sustained serious injuries, the Sullia court has sentenced bus driver Sanjeev Kumar Dharappa Madival.
According to the case details, as the KSRTC bus was approaching Soonthodu, the driver drove the vehicle negligently and rashly towards the right side of the road, resulting in a collision with a scooter that was travelling from the Sullia side towards Ubaradka Mithur. Rachana, who was riding the scooter, and Ananya, who was seated pillion, were thrown onto the road due to the impact. Rachana, who sustained severe injuries, later succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

The case was heard before senior civil judge B Mohan Babu. After the charges against the accused were proven, the court found the driver guilty and sentenced him to one year of simple imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1,000. The court further ordered an additional two months of simple imprisonment in case of failure to pay the fine.
