Chennai, Jan 9: After briefly facing uncertainty over censor clearance, Sivakarthikeyan’s much-awaited historical drama Parasakthi has finally received the green signal from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film has been granted a UA certificate, clearing the way for its theatrical release on January 10.
The development comes close on the heels of similar certification issues surrounding Vijay’s Jana Nayagan. On Friday, it was officially confirmed that Parasakthi, set against the backdrop of 1960s Madras, has been certified UA by the Censor Board, much to the relief of fans and the film’s makers.

Soon after the certification, Aakash Bhaskaran of Dawn Pictures, the production house backing the film, took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate the milestone. Announcing the clearance, the banner posted, “A fire that speaks to all ages. #Parasakthi censored with a U/A – striking theatres worldwide from tomorrow.”
The film’s certified runtime is two hours, 42 minutes and 43 seconds.
The certification news surfaced on the same day the Madras High Court directed the CBFC to grant a U/A 16+ certificate to Vijay’s Jana Nayagan and clear it for release. Earlier, reports had indicated that Parasakthi had not received clearance as of January 8, with neither the CBFC nor the makers issuing an official statement at that time.
Directed by Sudha Kongara, Parasakthi stars Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role alongside Jayam Ravi and Sreeleela. The film explores themes of social realities and resistance in 1960s Tamil Nadu. Music for the film has been composed by G V Prakash Kumar.
Apart from the lead cast, the film also features Atharvaa, Ravi Mohan, Daali Dhananjaya, Dev Ramnath, Prithvi Rajan, Guru Somasundaram, Basil Joseph, Papri Ghosh and Rana Daggubati in key roles. The film is produced by Dawn Pictures and is expected to open in theatres worldwide as scheduled.
