Mangaluru, Jan 10: Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) will stage the Konkani drama ‘Bhavadtache Daiz’ as part of the Lenten season. The play is penned by renowned religious writer Fr Ronald Serrao and directed by noted Konkani and Kannada theatre director John M Permannur, with senior theatre personality Jerome Moras serving as the assistant director.
The muhurth (inaugural ceremony) of the drama was held at the KNS Hall on Tuesday, January 6. Fr Rocky D Cunha OFM, President of KNS, invoked God’s blessings upon the new production and its artists. The ceremonial lamp was lit by Fr Ronald Serrao, Michael D’Souza (Vision Konkani), director John M Permannur, KNS vice president Floyd D’Mello Cascia, secretary Pamela Santos, treasurer Ivan D’Silva, and assistant secretary Jerome Moras, marking the official commencement of the new drama.

Explaining the plot, Fr Ronald Serrao said that Bhavadtache Daiz is a one-and-a-half-hour play featuring eight characters. The storyline revolves around an intense debate between a theologian and a philosopher, both reputed professors at a university. During the debate, the moderator introduces witnesses who lived during the time of Jesus Christ. Their testimonies guide the drama through deep and faith-filled conversations. Fr Serrao also expressed his happiness that KNS selected his play for production.
Extending his best wishes to the team, Michael D’Souza said, “Faith always brings us closer to God. Faith in God inspires us to perform good deeds in society. KNS is an organisation that consistently uplifts art and culture while nurturing religious values. I am always happy to be associated with such organisations that care about talent and society.”
Expressing his joy at being chosen as the director, John M Permannur said, “Discipline makes artists more professional and focused on their craft. Once rehearsals begin, we completely transform into the characters of the story. There is no room for doubt or unnecessary discussion beyond the director’s vision. I am happy to lead this team as its director.”
Assistant director Jerome Moras introduced the cast and technical team, while Edward Coello compered the event.
