Udupi, Jan 15: Udupi district police on Tuesday carried out a special “awareness and enforcement” drive to curb violations related to the transportation of minor minerals such as stone, soil, jelly and sand.
The operation was conducted between 2 pm and 7 pm, during which officials inspected 832 vehicles across the district. As many as 182 vehicle owners were issued notices for various violations.





In addition, 66 vehicles were penalised on the spot for overloading and other offences, resulting in the collection of Rs 22,500 in fines.
Within the Brahmavar police station limits, a case was registered against one vehicle, while 27 vehicles were seized and handed over to the department of mines and geology for further action.
Meanwhile, as part of a week-long awareness campaign held from January 8 to 14, authorities distributed 1,240 pamphlets to sensitise vehicle owners about the mandatory installation of speed governors. Following the campaign, 163 vehicles have already been fitted with speed governors, officials said.
