Chennai, Jan 17: The makers of director Gunasekhar’s upcoming film Euphoria have unveiled an intense and thought-provoking trailer, offering a glimpse into a hard-hitting contemporary social drama. Headlined by Bhoomika Chawla, the film is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on February 6.

Backed by Guna Handmade Films and presented by Sri Thenandal Films, Euphoria is inspired by what the makers describe as “shockingly true events.” Sharing the trailer on social media platform X, the production house highlighted the film’s gritty tone and announced its global release date, calling the trailer “intense and intriguing.”

Gunasekhar, best known for acclaimed films such as Okkadu and Rudhramadevi, returns to socially relevant storytelling with this project. The trailer opens on a promising young girl whose parents dream of seeing her emulate accomplished civil servants like Smitha Sabharwal or Amrapali. Her life takes a turn when she accepts an invitation to what is described as a harmless, non-alcoholic party — a decision that triggers a chain of disturbing events.

As the narrative unfolds, visuals of violent protests, shattered windows and unsettling news reports dominate the screen. One striking moment reveals that Bhoomika Chawla’s character has filed a criminal case against herself, a revelation that sparks speculation but withholds the reason behind her drastic action.

The trailer further delves into the dark underbelly of youth culture, portraying minors engaging in reckless behaviour under the influence of drugs and alcohol. News reports within the film highlight a surge in crimes involving juveniles, culminating in disturbing scenes of violence. The emotional peak arrives when Bhoomika’s character delivers a haunting line expressing profound remorse and anguish, underscoring the film’s grim emotional core.

In addition to Bhoomika Chawla, Euphoria features an ensemble cast that includes Gautham Vasudev Menon, Sara Arjun and veteran actor Nassar. The film also stars Rohith, Vignesh Kavi Reddy, Likitha Yalamanchili, Adala Prudhvi Raj, Kalpa Latha, Sai Sreenika Reddy, Ashritha Vemuganti, Matthew Varghese, Adarsh Balakrishna, Ravi Prakash, Naveena Reddy and Likith Nayudu.

Following the blockbuster success of Dhurandhar, Euphoria marks another significant project for Sara Arjun, adding to the anticipation surrounding the film. Notably, the movie reunites Gunasekhar and Bhoomika Chawla nearly two decades after their earlier collaborations, with industry sources suggesting that Bhoomika’s role has been tailor-made to showcase her acting depth and emotional intensity.

The film’s technical team includes Kaala Bhairava as music composer, Praveen K. Pothan as cinematographer and Praveen Pudi handling editing duties. Dialogues have been written by Nagendra Kasi and Krishna Hari.

With its unsettling themes and powerful performances hinted at in the trailer, Euphoria promises to be a bold cinematic exploration of contemporary social issues when it arrives in theatres next month.
