Udaipur, Jan 19: In a tragic road accident on the old Ahmedabad highway here, four friends were killed and six others injured after two cars collided near Nela Talab in the Savina area on Saturday.

According to police, the victims, all residents of Udaipur, were heading out for tea to celebrate a friend’s birthday when the mishap occurred. The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Ayan (17), Adil Qureshi (14), Sher Mohammad (19) and Ghulam Khwaja (17). Two others travelling in the same car — Wasim (20) and Mohammed Kaif (19) — sustained serious injuries and were rushed to MB Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

Police said a video was recorded moments before the fatal crash, showing Sher Mohammad driving the car at a speed of 100–120 kmph, which later increased to around 140 kmph. Just over a minute into the recording, the car met with the accident. In the video, one of the occupants can be heard urging the driver to slow down, but the request was ignored.

After the collision, the injured youths reportedly cried for help for nearly 10 minutes. By the time local residents reached the spot, four of them had succumbed to their injuries, while two were in a critical condition.

Preliminary investigation revealed that six friends were travelling in one car after attending a ‘Mehfil-e-Milad’ programme and were on their way towards the highway for tea when their vehicle was hit by another car. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
