Mumbai, Jan 23: Celebrated filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has conceptualised the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s Republic Day Parade tableau this year, titled ‘Bharat Gatha’, marking a rare and historic moment for Indian cinema on Kartavya Path.

In a first-of-its-kind honour, Bhansali becomes the first Indian film director to represent the world of cinema at the nation’s most iconic ceremonial event. Elevating the tableau further, the I&B Ministry has brought on board renowned singer Shreya Ghoshal to perform a specially composed song that will accompany the tableau as it rolls down Kartavya Path on January 26.

According to sources familiar with the development, Ghoshal has recorded an exclusive composition created specifically for Bharat Gatha. Music has long been a defining element of Bhansali’s cinematic language, and his collaborations with Ghoshal are known for their emotional resonance. This time, that signature musical synergy will unfold live as part of the Republic Day Parade, blending melody with national pride.

The Bharat Gatha tableau celebrates India’s rich storytelling legacy, weaving together cinema, music, visuals and performance as enduring cultural traditions passed through generations. The theme reflects how stories have shaped India’s identity, evolving from folklore to the silver screen while retaining their emotional core.

Bhansali and Ghoshal share a long and successful creative history. Their collaboration began with Devdas, the film that launched Ghoshal’s Bollywood career when she was still a teenager, with the iconic song Bairi Piya. Since then, the duo has delivered several memorable musical successes.

Currently, Shreya Ghoshal is seen as a judge on the popular singing reality show Indian Idol. Bhansali, meanwhile, is preparing for the shoot of his upcoming film Love and War, starring Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.

With Bharat Gatha, the Republic Day Parade will witness a unique confluence of cinema, music and national heritage, bringing India’s storytelling soul to the forefront of its grandest celebration.
