Mangaluru, Jan 26: The 76th Republic Day was celebrated with great pride and patriotic fervour at Carmel Central School, Kotekar, in collaboration with Stella Maris Kannada Medium Higher Primary School. The programme beautifully reflected unity, respect for the Constitution, and deep love for the nation.

The celebration commenced with the flag hoisting ceremony, solemnly conducted by the chief guest, Jayanth Kondana, president, Tiya Samaj, Ullal, in the august presence of Sr Juliana Mary AC, joint secretary; Sr Sheetal, headmistress, Stella Maris Kannada Medium Higher Primary School; Sr Pramila D’Souza AC, principal, Carmel Central School; Sr Julie Ann AC, administrator, Carmel Central School; and Jayashree, PTA vice president, Stella Maris Kannada Medium Higher Primary School. The dignitaries were ceremoniously escorted by the school band, adding grace and grandeur to the occasion.

Following the flag hoisting, the cultural programme began with a graceful prayer dance, invoking blessings for the nation, followed by a vibrant welcome dance that set an energetic tone for the celebration. Sr Sheetal delivered the welcome address, warmly greeting the gathering and highlighting the significance of Republic Day as a reminder of constitutional values and democratic responsibilities.

Students presented a series of well-coordinated cultural performances, including patriotic songs and dances that expressed their love and respect for the country. The significance of the day was thoughtfully conveyed, highlighting India’s journey as a sovereign democratic republic. A special dance based on the Preamble of the Indian Constitution beautifully portrayed its values and spirit, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

Sr Julie Ann AC addressed the gathering and spoke on the importance of Republic Day, emphasizing the invaluable contribution of Dr B R Ambedkar in framing the Indian Constitution. She highlighted that while the Constitution grants rights, it also calls upon every citizen to uphold its values through responsible actions. She stressed the importance of peace, harmony, love, and compassion, encouraging students to contribute positively towards building a united nation.

The celebrations continued in the school auditorium with another cultural programme graced by K Vijayan, retired chief petty officer of the Indian Navy, as the chief guest, along with Sr Pramila D’Souza AC, principal; Sr Anitha D’Souza AC, vice principal; Sr Julie Ann AC, administrator; and other coordinators.

The programme began with a prayer song, followed by a lively welcome dance. The event was compered by Ayesha and Areeb Ameer, who confidently introduced the dignitaries and welcomed the gathering. A floral tribute, accompanied by soft music, paid homage to the nation. The significance of Republic Day was conveyed through a meaningful skit, along with patriotic songs and dances that captivated the audience.

K Vijayan delivered an inspiring address, emphasizing the importance of flag hoisting and the true spirit of Republic Day. He shared insights on India’s journey as a republic and instilled a sense of pride, discipline, and responsibility among the students.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the guests, teachers, students, and organizers for their collective efforts. The Republic Day celebration stood as a testimony to the school’s commitment to nurturing patriotism, unity, and constitutional values among its students.
