Mangaluru, Feb 1: Martyrs’ Day was observed with deep reverence and patriotic fervour on January 30 at Carmel School, CBSE, to honour the brave souls who sacrificed their lives for the nation. The programme was organised to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi and all martyrs whose courage, selflessness, and commitment continue to inspire generations.
The commemoration began with a solemn prayer service, creating a reflective and respectful atmosphere as students and staff gathered to pay homage. A graceful welcome dance followed, adding warmth to the occasion and setting a dignified tone for the programme. This was succeeded by a formal welcome address, which reminded the gathering of the significance of remembering the sacrifices made for the country’s freedom and peace.

The chief guest for the day, Sr Maria Premitha AC, graced the occasion with her esteemed presence, making the programme both meaningful and inspiring. She was warmly welcomed along with the principal, Sr Pramila AC, and the administrator, Sr Julie Ann AC.
As a mark of deep respect and gratitude, floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi. A moving dance drama depicting Gandhiji’s life, his message of non-violence, and the tragic moment of his martyrdom deeply touched the audience. This was complemented by patriotic dances and cultural performances, which added vibrancy to the programme while conveying strong messages of unity, peace, and national pride.
The significance of Martyrs’ Day was eloquently explained by a student, who highlighted that the day is observed to honour all those who laid down their lives for the freedom and safety of the nation. Special mention was made of Mahatma Gandhi’s martyrdom on January 30, 1948. The student emphasized that Martyrs’ Day reminds us of the enduring values of truth, non-violence, sacrifice, and service to the nation, inspiring citizens to live responsibly and work towards harmony and peace.
In her address, Sr Maria Premitha AC spoke movingly about the life and sacrifice of Mahatma Gandhi. She highlighted the timeless relevance of Gandhiji’s ideals of truth, non-violence, peace, and forgiveness, and encouraged students to follow his path in their daily lives, becoming responsible citizens who spread love, unity, and kindness in society.
The programme was efficiently compered by Thashvi and Yakshith, who guided the event smoothly with confidence and grace.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks proposed by Aradhya, expressing sincere gratitude to the chief guest, principal, administrator, sisters, teachers, and students for their support and active participation.
The Martyrs’ Day commemoration proved to be a meaningful and memorable event, instilling patriotism, respect, and a deep sense of responsibility in the hearts of all present.
