Sullia: Case registered over assault, threat and gold jewellery dispute in Sampaje

Sullia, Feb 5: A case has been registered at the Sullia police station following a complaint regarding an alleged assault, threats, and a dispute involving gold jewellery at Sampaje village in Sullia taluk.

According to the press release, the incident occurred on February 2, at around 7.30 pm in Sampaje village. Nithyananda Rai (64), a resident of Sampaje village, was on his way to Sullia for work at the time. During this, his grandson Gian Rai insisted on accompanying the complainant. It is alleged that the complainant’s daughter-in-law, Sahitya Rai, forcibly attempted to pull the grandson away. When the complainant held on to the child firmly and attempted to leave, the daughter-in-law allegedly obstructed him, bit his left thumb, and caused injuries by scratching his face and neck with her fingernails.

The complainant has further alleged that while taking away 55 pavan of gold jewellery that was given at the time of marriage, she threatened him, stating that if he tried to stop her, she would kill him.

Based on the complaint, a case has been registered at the Sullia police station under Crime No. 17/2026, invoking Sections 126(2), 115(2), and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and investigation is underway.

Police have also stated that both a complaint and a counter-complaint have been registered in the case, and further investigation is in progress.
