Mangaluru: Four held in inter-state ganja racket; 22.25 kg contraband worth Rs 12.3 lac seized

Mangaluru, Feb 21: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, the Panambur police on Saturday, February 21, busted an alleged inter-state ganja trafficking network near Jokatte Cross Railway Bridge within the Panambur police station limits, arresting four persons and seizing 22 kg 250 grams of contraband.

Acting on specific intelligence that ganja had been brought from outside the state for sale, the ACP of the North sub-division, along with his team of officers and personnel, carried out a swift raid under the leadership of the PSI of Panambur police station and staff.

The arrested have been identified as Karan Babu Ram Jadhav (27), son of Babu Ram Neelkanth Jadhav, a resident of Samata Nagar, Choppad taluk, Jalgaon district, Maharashtra; Sameer Shah (19), son of Munshi Shah, a resident of Tahasil Bagli, Chapda Post, Dewas District, Madhya Pradesh; M H Mayyadi (48), son of M. Hasan Byari, a resident of Hejamadi village, Udupi taluk and district; and Ibrahim Kaleel (47), son of Late Abdul Rahiman, a resident of Karbala Road, near Nadupalli Mosque, Kudroli, Mangaluru, presently residing at Kavoor, Mangaluru.

Police seized 22 kg 250 grams of ganja valued at approximately Rs 11,12,500, six mobile phone handsets worth around Rs 18,000, and two scooters bearing registration numbers KA-20-HE-2915 and KA-19-HP-6021, collectively valued at about Rs 1,00,000, allegedly used to transport the narcotics. The total value of the seized property is estimated at Rs 12,30,500.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Karan Babu Ram Jadhav and Sameer Shah allegedly procured the ganja from contacts identified as Mayyadi in Maharashtra and Shahrukh in Madhya Pradesh. The contraband was then transported to coastal Karnataka and handed over to M H Mayyadi of Hejamadi Kodi, Udupi, and Ibrahim Kaleel of Mangaluru.

The duo allegedly distributed and sold the ganja at key locations across Udupi, Malpe, Karkala, Mulki, Surathkal, Panambur and Mangaluru city. Police sources indicated that the accused have admitted to having transported ganja illegally on several earlier occasions and selling it in Udupi district and Mangaluru city.

A case has been registered at Panambur police station in crime No. 21/2026 under Sections 8(C) and 20(b)(ii)(C) of the NDPS Act.
