Chhattisgarh, Feb 22: In a remarkable story of determination and self-belief, Poorva Agarwal from Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, secured All India Rank 65 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination last year, transforming her earlier success as an IPS officer into an even bigger milestone by achieving her long-cherished dream of becoming an IAS officer.

Poorva’s achievement stands out as a testament to consistent hard work and dedication. She was earlier selected for the Indian Police Service (IPS) in UPSC CSE 2023 with an All India Rank of 189 and was allotted the Chhattisgarh cadre. Clearing the examination successfully twice in consecutive attempts highlights her perseverance and disciplined preparation.

Speaking in an interview, Poorva said that she had aspired to become an IAS officer ever since she began her academic journey. She made a bold decision to leave a private job worth Rs 30 lac per annum to fully dedicate herself to UPSC preparation. After becoming an IPS officer, she felt happy and fulfilled, noting that IPS is also a prestigious service that offers immense opportunities to serve the people. However, she decided to give the examination another attempt, believing that she could achieve her IAS dream.

She explained that the IAS service offers greater diversity in roles and responsibilities. Building on her previous preparation, she focused on correcting her earlier mistakes and refining her strategy, which ultimately led to her improved rank and success.

Poorva also revealed that she was deeply inspired by IAS officer Avnish Sharan. She described his journey as highly motivating and said that his thoughts and guidance on social media platforms left a strong impression on her and encouraged her to stay focused on her goal.

Giving credit for her success, Poorva expressed heartfelt gratitude to her parents, elder sister, and friends, stating that their constant support played a crucial role in her journey. She thanked everyone who stood by her during the challenging preparation phase.

Sharing advice for aspirants who did not secure good ranks, Poorva emphasised the importance of understanding the syllabus thoroughly and studying it in depth. She advised candidates to stay motivated at all times and maintain regular communication with their families to remain mentally strong during the examination phase, calling mental balance one of the most important aspects of preparation.
