Udupi, Feb 23: Officials of the Udupi forest department apprehended a man who was allegedly attempting to sell a fake tiger claw by falsely claiming it was genuine.

The accused, dressed in a sanyasi’s attire, was trying to convince people that the tiger claw in his possession was authentic. Suspicious members of the public alerted activists of the district citizens’ committee about the suspected fraud.

Acting on the tip-off, social worker Nithyananda Olakadu and Taranath Mesta Shiroor assisted in the operation. When the suspect attempted to flee, personnel from the City police station detained him near the Old Bus Stand in Udupi.

He was subsequently handed over to forest department officials for further investigation.
