Bantwal: Loretto Central School celebrates National Science Day

Media Release

Bantwal, Feb 28: Loretto Central School celebrated National Science Day, commemorating the discovery of the Raman Effect by the eminent Indian scientist C V Raman.

The celebration was held in the school auditorium with great enthusiasm. The event was graced by the presence of manager Fr Francis Crasta, chief guest Roshan Pinto, science teacher Carmel Highschool Modankap, principal Fr Jason Vijay Monis, PTA vice president Rodney Ivan D’Souza, and vice principal Anitha Pais.

The programme began with a prayer song by the school choir. The dignitaries inaugurated the programme by conducting a simple science experiment in which baking soda placed inside a balloon was allowed to mix with coloured vinegar in a bottle, producing a reaction that inflated the balloon and symbolised the spirit of curiosity and discovery.

The chief guest Roshan Pinto, in his address, encouraged students to take C V Raman as a role model. He emphasised that curiosity should increase as we grow older and not decrease. He explained that success requires patience, repeated experimentation, and years of dedication, just as Raman worked for many years before achieving success. He motivated students to dream big and remain committed to their goals. He demonstrated experiments using pipes and balloons, showing how different lengths of pipes produce different sounds.

Principal Fr Jason Vijay Monis advised students not to waste valuable time on social media. Instead, he encouraged them to use that time productively by gaining knowledge, developing interests, and implementing innovative ideas. He urged students to focus on meaningful learning and creative thinking.

Manager Fr Francis Crasta highlighted that amazement, wonder, curiosity and innovation truly define the spirit of Science Day. He encouraged students to observe the world around them with interest, develop a questioning mindset, and nurture a curious and innovative attitude.

On account of National Science Day, a science model making competition was conducted. Students actively participated and showcased their creativity and scientific understanding through innovative models. The winners were awarded and appreciated for their outstanding efforts.

Vaagmi of grade 4 compered the programme. Shyna of grade 7 delivered the welcome address, and Praina explained the importance of National Science Day and the significance of the Raman Effect. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Jewel Maria of grade 7.
