Anti-39A rally sparks talks of RG–AAP alliance in Goa

Daijiworld Media Network - Margao

Margao, Feb 28: The anti-39A protest held at Azad Maidan on Friday has set the stage for possible political realignment in Goa, with the Revolutionary Goans Party (RG) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) signalling willingness to form an unconditional alliance under a broader opposition front.

The demonstration, spearheaded by RG, brought together a spectrum of opposition leaders and supporters rallying around a common cause. While the public event concluded with speeches and sloganeering, significant political discussions reportedly unfolded behind the scenes.

AAP’s Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas revealed that RG president Manoj Parab approached him with a proposal to join forces as part of a wider opposition coalition in the state.

According to Viegas, the proposal was taken seriously by AAP and was discussed with the party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal before a response was conveyed. “We received the alliance offer from Manoj Parab, and AAP is ready for an unconditional alliance in the larger interest of Goa,” Viegas stated.

Parab has repeatedly advocated for a united opposition platform in Goa. During the Azad Maidan rally, he directly appealed to opposition legislators, urging those constrained by party positions against alliances to consider joining RG instead.

Viegas indicated that further consultations with other opposition parties are expected in the coming days. He emphasised that any prospective coalition would rest on a common minimum programme and shared ideological principles aimed at presenting a cohesive alternative in the state’s political landscape.
