UAE intercepts Iranian missiles, confirms casualty after debris falls in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, Feb 28: The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced on Saturday that its air defence systems successfully intercepted and destroyed a fresh wave of Iranian ballistic missiles launched toward the country.

According to the ministry, the operation was executed with high efficiency and prevented further large-scale damage. However, debris from intercepted missiles fell in several parts of Abu Dhabi, including Saadiyat Island, Khalifa City, Baniyas, Mohammed Bin Zayed City, and Al Falah.

Earlier in the day, authorities confirmed that debris had struck a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in material damage and the death of one individual of Asian nationality.

In an official statement, the Defence Ministry reaffirmed its readiness to counter any threats, stating that all necessary measures are being taken to safeguard national security and stability. It stressed that the safety of citizens, residents, and visitors remains an uncompromised priority.

The ministry condemned the missile launches as a blatant violation of national sovereignty and international law, calling them a dangerous escalation that targeted civilian facilities and institutions. It reiterated that the UAE reserves the right to respond and take appropriate measures to protect its territory, people, and interests.

Authorities also urged the public to rely solely on official sources for information and to refrain from spreading rumours or unverified reports, noting that security agencies continue to monitor developments closely around the clock.
