Beltangady, Mar 1: A fire broke out in the Elaneeru forest region of Malavantige village, falling under the Kudremukh National Park limits in Beltangady taluk, on Sunday.
The fire reportedly started in the grasslands of the protected area. Personnel from the wildlife division rushed to the spot to prevent the flames from spreading further into the dense forest.

Beltangady wildlife range forest officer (RFO) Sharmistha stated that the fire has been successfully brought under control by the department staff. "The grassland fire was monitored closely by the wildlife wing and is currently under control," she confirmed.
Following the forest fire, residents in nearby villages have reported a shift in the local weather, experiencing intense heat during the day followed by a slight chill at night. The forest department continues to remain on high alert to prevent any further flare-ups during the peak summer season.
