India enter T20 World Cup semis after five-wicket win over West Indies

Kolkata, Mar 2: India stormed into the semi-finals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup with a thrilling five-wicket victory over the West Indies cricket team in a must-win Super Eight clash at the Eden Gardens on Sunday night.

Chasing a challenging target of 196, the Men in Blue rode on a sensational unbeaten 97 off just 50 balls by Sanju Samson to seal the win with four balls to spare. Samson’s explosive knock anchored the innings under pressure, earning him the Player of the Match award.

Earlier, after being put in to bat, the West Indies posted a competitive 195 for four in their allotted 20 overs. Roston Chase top-scored with 40 runs. For India, Jasprit Bumrah picked up two crucial wickets to restrict the opposition.

India will now take on England cricket team in the second semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.

In the first semi-final, South Africa national cricket team will face New Zealand national cricket team at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday.

The winners of the two semi-finals will clash in the final on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
