Mangaluru, Mar 2: A comprehensive free medical camp was organised at Infant Mary’s School, Jeppu, on Sunday, March 1, providing essential healthcare services to the local community. The initiative was spearheaded by St Joseph Church, Jeppu, in association with the Catholic Sabha, ICYM, and the health commission, Jeppu.
The camp was conducted in collaboration with KMC Hospital (Attavar and Ambedkar Circle) and the Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangaluru.
















Inauguration
The programme was presided over by the parish priest, Fr Maxim D'Souza, who formally inaugurated the camp. In his address, he highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare and encouraged the public to utilise the professional medical services brought to their doorstep.
Present on the dais were Fr Maxim D'Souza, parish priest; Dr Praveen Chandra, head, podiatric department; Dr Vaishak Bhat, spine surgeon; Dr Joey Christie, ophthalmologist; Sr Sylvia, superior, Infant Mary Convent; Dennis Apos, vice president, parish pastoral committee; Anitha Aranha, secretary, parish pastoral committee; Reshma Penha, secretary, Catholic Sabha and ICYM president; and Philomena D'Silva, all commission coordinator.
Dennis Apos welcomed the gathering, while Savita Platina anchored the session. The vote of thanks was delivered by Reshma Penha.

KMC Hospital issued "Green Cards" to eligible patients during the camp. Patients admitted to the hospital using this Green Card will receive further treatment benefits.
Awareness message
Dr Praveen Chandra delivered an informative and inspiring talk on diabetes awareness with the meaningful motto: “I Will Not Walk Barefoot.” He emphasised proper foot care, early diagnosis, and regular medical check-ups to prevent complications related to diabetes.
Participation and impact
The camp witnessed an encouraging response from the parishioners and the local community. A total of 137 people benefited from the camp, supported by a medical team of approximately 45 doctors and nursing staff. The dedicated efforts of the volunteers and organisers ensured the smooth conduct of the camp.

The free medical camp was a great success, reflecting the church’s commitment to community welfare. The collaboration between St Joseph Church, Catholic Sabha, ICYM, health commission, KMC hospitals, and Manipal College of Dental Sciences made this initiative impactful and meaningful.
