Panaji, Mar 3: The Goa Barge Owners’ Association on Friday submitted its recommendations for the State Budget 2026-27 to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant during a meeting held in Panaji.

The delegation, led by Association President Chandrakant K Gawas, comprised Executive Committee members Rahul Naik and Mahendra Parsekar. The representatives handed over a detailed memorandum outlining key suggestions concerning the inland water transport and barge sector in the state.

According to the Association, the proposals are aimed at strengthening the barge industry and addressing operational challenges faced by operators, particularly in view of fluctuating mining activities and related uncertainties.

The delegation thanked the Chief Minister for granting them an opportunity to present their inputs ahead of the formulation of the forthcoming State Budget.

Chief Minister Sawant appreciated the representation and assured the members that their recommendations would be examined for possible inclusion in the Budget for the financial year 2026-27. He also acknowledged the significant role played by the barge industry in contributing to Goa’s economy and generating employment.

In a statement, the Association expressed gratitude to the state government for its continued support to the sector. It also referred to the upgradation of Brittona School, noting that such initiatives would help in creating skilled manpower required for the industry.

President Chandrakant K Gawas described the interaction as constructive and expressed hope that the concerns and proposals of barge owners would receive due consideration during the budgetary process.
