Saka strike sends Arsenal seven points clear after City held by Forest

Daijiworld Media Network - London

London, Mar 5: Bukayo Saka’s early strike proved decisive as Arsenal F.C. secured a crucial 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. at the Amex Stadium, capitalising on Manchester City F.C.’s shock 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest F.C. to move seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Mikel Arteta’s men were not at their fluent best, but Saka’s ninth-minute effort was enough to seal a massive three points on what could prove to be a defining night in the title race.

After surviving an early scare — when Gabriel Magalhaes had to head the ball off his own line following a poor clearance from David Raya — Arsenal struck first. Making his 300th appearance for his boyhood club, stand-in skipper Saka cut in from the right after receiving a pass from Jurrien Timber and unleashed a shot that deflected off Carlos Baleba and wrong-footed Bart Verbruggen in the Brighton goal.

The visitors struggled to build on their advantage, with Brighton causing problems throughout the first half. However, Arsenal held firm, grinding out a hard-fought victory while City dropped points in Manchester.

Gabriel Magalhaes was immense at the heart of defence, setting the tone early with his goal-line clearance and throwing himself into crucial challenges throughout the contest.

Player Ratings

David Raya (7/10): Fortunate to be rescued by Gabriel after an early error. Regained composure and handled his area confidently thereafter.

Jurrien Timber (7/10): Provided the assist for Saka’s winner and delivered another assured display on the right flank.

Cristhian Mosquera (7/10): Drafted in for the injured Saliba, picked up an early booking but managed the situation well with key defensive interventions.

Gabriel Magalhaes (9/10): A towering presence at the back. His early goal-line clearance set the tone for a colossal performance.

Piero Hincapie (8/10): Continued his impressive form, defending resolutely and adapting seamlessly when moved to centre-back in the second half.

With momentum firmly on their side and a healthy cushion at the summit, Arsenal now head into the FA Cup fifth-round weekend with renewed belief in their title charge.
