Mangaluru: World Hearing Day observed at K S Hegde Medical Academy

Mangaluru, Mar 5: The department of otorhinolaryngology (ENT), KS Hegde Medical Academy, Nitte (deemed to be university), observed World Hearing Week with a special inaugural programme on March 5 at Chintana Hall, Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital, Deralakatte.

Anand Kumar, executive director, MRPL, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Prof Dr M S Moodithaya, vice chancellor, Nitte (deemed to be university), presided over the function.

The event was attended by distinguished guests of honour including Prof Dr B Sandeep Rai, dean, K S Hegde Medical Academy; Prof Dr Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, vice president (ISR and CRL), Nitte DU; Dr Maheswari Singh, environmental officer, KSPCB; and Prof Dr G Srinikethan, retired dean, NITK Surathkal.

On this occasion, the department highlighted the success of 'Project Nishabda', an awareness initiative on noise-induced hearing loss among school children. The project, which covered over 100 schools across Mangaluru, was generously sponsored by MRPL, enabling the programme to reach a large number of students.

The programme aimed to further create awareness about hearing health, early detection of hearing loss, and the importance of timely intervention. Faculty members, students, and healthcare professionals participated in the event, emphasising the significance of protecting hearing and promoting ear care in the community.

The event was organised under the guidance of Prof Dr Vadisha Bhat, head of the department of ENT, with Prof Dr Rajeshwary A serving as the organising chairman and Dr Shravan Alva as the organising secretary. Dr Neema conducted the programme.
