FIR filed against four for protest in Goa Assembly visitors’ gallery

Panaji, Mar 8: Porvorim Police Station on Saturday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against four persons who allegedly protested inside the visitors’ gallery of the Goa Legislative Assembly during the first day of the budget session.

The protestors reportedly displayed placards and raised slogans opposing the bandhara project at Mirabag, causing disruption during the proceedings of the House.

The FIR names Hemant Bhandari, Umesh Naik, Upendra Naik and Appa Naik. They have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, voluntarily obstructing a public servant in the discharge of official duties, and assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from duty.

According to a complaint submitted to the Director General of Police by the Assembly secretary, the incident occurred while the Speaker was presiding over the House.

In the complaint, the secretary stated that while the Speaker was in the chair, certain individuals seated in the visitors’ gallery raised slogans and displayed posters, leading to disturbance during the Assembly proceedings.

The secretary also noted that the Speaker viewed the conduct seriously, as it disrupted the functioning of the House during the ongoing budget session.
