Mangaluru: Voter ID Mapping Camp held at St Sebastian Church, Bendur

Mangaluru, Mar 9: A Voter ID Mapping Camp for citizens in and around Bendur parish was successfully organized at St Sebastian Church, Bendur, under the leadership of parish priest Fr Walter D’Souza, with the support of the Commissions for peace and justice, social communication, social development, and youth.

The programme began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, marking the formal inauguration of the camp.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by assistant parish priest Fr Vivek Pinto, vice president Deepak D’Souza, secretary Roysten Farias, Loy Rego, convenor of the Parish Commissions, and Dennis D’Silva, coordinator of the camp and representative of the episcopal deanery of the Mangalore diocese, along with members of the organizing commissions, church volunteers, and parishioners.

Fr Vivek Deepak Pinto led the gathering in prayer, seeking blessings for the success of the camp. Deepak D’Souza welcomed the gathering with warm words and expressed gratitude to the participants for their enthusiastic response and participation.

Addressing the gathering, Dennis D’Silva highlighted the importance of Voter ID mapping in ensuring accurate electoral records and strengthening democratic participation. Roysten Farias proposed the vote of thanks. The inaugural programme was compered by Tina.

The camp witnessed an overwhelming response, with more than 2,000 people from different communities attending and benefiting from the services provided. Over 20 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) assisted citizens with voter ID mapping and related procedures under the supervision of Mrs. Bharathi, Supervisor of the BLOs.

During the camp, Community leaders visited the venue and appreciated the initiative taken by the parish. Among them were MLC Ivan D’Souza, corporator Naveen D’Souza, and the president of Catholic Sabha, who interacted with the organizers and encouraged the public to actively participate in the democratic process.

The event was made successful through the dedicated efforts of numerous volunteers who ensured the smooth conduct of the camp. The Parish Pastoral Council also played a significant role in organizing the programme.

The camp aimed to help citizens update and map their voter ID details, thereby promoting responsible civic participation and ensuring that every eligible voter is properly registered.
