New York, Mar 9: A New York City Police Department officer has died while deployed to Kuwait in support of the ongoing conflict involving Iran, according to city and state officials.
Officer Sorffly Davius died on Friday at Camp Buehring, Kathy Hochul, Governor of New York, said in a statement.

Hochul described Davius as a “true Citizen Soldier” and a devoted husband and father.
Davius served in the 42nd Infantry Division of the Army National Guard and had risen to the rank of major, the police department said. He joined the NYPD in 2014 and was assigned to the 79th Precinct in New York City.
“Today, and always, we keep his family in our thoughts and prayers,” the department said in a statement on social media, adding that his sacrifice would not be forgotten.
Before his overseas deployment, Davius served with distinction on Joint Task Force Empire Shield, a security unit of the New York National Guard responsible for protecting high-profile locations across the state.
Governor Hochul said his life reflected the sacrifices made by National Guard members who balance their roles as civilians, first responders and soldiers.
Tributes were also paid by Zohran Mamdani, Mayor of New York City, and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, who said his career was defined by service to both the country and the city.
According to the United States Central Command, seven US service members have died during the joint military operations involving the United States and Israel against Iran. Six of those deaths occurred in Kuwait, while another American service member died after succumbing to injuries from a March 1 attack on US troops in Saudi Arabia.
