New Delhi, Mar 12: Indian tennis ace Yuki Bhambri scripted a memorable milestone in his career as he, alongside his Swedish partner Goran Goransson, stormed into the semifinals of the ATP Masters 1000 doubles event at Indian Wells. The Indo-Swedish pair defeated the Austrian-Italian duo of Alexander Erler and Andrea Vavassori in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6, in an enthralling quarterfinal that lasted over 90 minutes.

This marks Bhambri’s first-ever semifinal appearance at the prestigious Masters 1000 level, having previously reached the doubles quarter-finals twice. The pair’s dominance on their first serve proved decisive, winning 83 per cent of points on first serve (29 out of 35), which played a key role in clinching the second-set tiebreak and sealing the match.

In the semifinals on Friday, Bhambri and Goransson will face the formidable French-Monegasque combination of Arthur Rinderknech and Valentin Vacherot, who advanced after defeating the Russian duo of Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-4 in their quarterfinal clash.

Bhambri’s historic run at Indian Wells is being hailed as a proud moment for Indian tennis, inspiring young players and sports enthusiasts across the nation.
