Iran says Hormuz Strait open but bars US, Israeli-linked ships

Daijiworld Media Network - Tehran

Tehran, Mar 15: Abbas Araghchi has said the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz remains operational for international shipping, but vessels linked to the United States and Israel will not be allowed to pass through the waterway.

His remarks came amid rising tensions in the region following recent military developments.

In an interview with CNN, Araghchi said the maritime route had not been completely shut down.

The statement comes even as hundreds of ships, including several Indian vessels, remain stranded in the narrow sea lane between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

Araghchi said that ships from other nations are still free to navigate through the strait.

He also suggested that some shipping companies are choosing to avoid the area due to safety concerns rather than an outright blockade.

The minister maintained that several tankers and cargo vessels are continuing to move through the waterway despite the heightened tensions in the region.
