BTS set for grand comeback, documentary trailer strikes emotional note

Seoul, Mar 18: K-pop sensation BTS has described itself as “country kids from South Korea” in the trailer of its upcoming documentary, released ahead of the group’s much-anticipated comeback concert this weekend.

The documentary, BTS: The RETURN, will premiere on Netflix on March 27, capturing the seven-member group’s return after completing mandatory military service.

In the trailer, group leader RM reflects on their journey, saying the band is still discovering what defines them despite global fame.

The comeback concert, expected to draw over 2.5 lakh fans, will be held at Gwanghwamun Square, near the historic Gyeongbokgung Palace. It will mark the group’s first live performance together in nearly four years.

A day before the concert, BTS will release its fifth studio album ARIRANG, inspired by the iconic Korean folk song associated with themes of longing and resilience.

The trailer features the melody of “Arirang” and references the Korean concept of “han” — a deep, collective sense of unresolved grief shaped by the nation’s history.

At the peak of their global success before their hiatus, BTS ranked among the most streamed artists on platforms like Spotify, alongside international stars, and performed at major global venues, including appearances at the White House.

Their return performance at a historic public square in Seoul is being seen as both a cultural and symbolic homecoming for the group.
