Missile strike hits Tel Aviv amid escalating Iran-Israel conflict

Tel Aviv, Mar 24: A missile fired from Iran struck Tel Aviv on Tuesday, injuring several people and damaging buildings and vehicles, according to Israeli authorities. Loud explosions were reported across the city, with eyewitnesses describing large plumes of smoke in both northern and southern parts of the commercial hub.

Citing security officials, Israel Army Radio said the missile appeared to be a cluster-type weapon, containing multiple bomblets of roughly 100 kg each, which struck several locations. At a site in northern Tel Aviv, a missile landed between buildings, creating a powerful blast wave that heavily damaged three structures. Shelters within the buildings remained intact, and those inside were unharmed, said Miki David. Social media images showed a crater at the impact site.

Magen David Adom reported six people sustained minor injuries that did not require hospital treatment. Air raid sirens were activated seven times overnight and into Tuesday morning, including in southern Israel near Dimona, where the country’s nuclear facility is located.

The strike comes on the 25th day of the regional conflict, which continues despite US President Donald Trump’s claim of ongoing negotiations, which Iran has dismissed as “fake news.”

Meanwhile, reports indicate the Pentagon is considering deploying US forces in response. According to The New York Times, the US Army’s 82nd Airborne Division “Immediate Response Force” — a brigade of roughly 3,000 troops capable of global deployment within 18 hours — could be sent to support operations, including potentially seizing Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export hub. Additionally, the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, comprising about 2,500 troops, is en route to the Middle East.

Since February 28, US Central Command said the US military has conducted more than 9,000 strikes in Iran, including damaging or sinking over 140 Iranian naval vessels, following joint US-Israel military operations. The ongoing conflict has disrupted global shipping, spiked oil prices, and heightened economic uncertainty worldwide.
