Mumbai, Mar 26: A viral social media video has brought attention to an incident at St Theresa School, where several students were reportedly removed from an ongoing examination over concerns about their hair length.
The situation unfolded at the Charni Road campus near Opera House, when a parent alleged that his son, along with a few others, was asked to leave the exam hall despite complying with grooming expectations. In the video, the parent stated that his son had already trimmed his hair multiple times in recent weeks and accused the school of unnecessary harassment. He contacted the police after the students were initially barred from continuing their exam.

Officers from V P Road Police Station responded to the complaint and spoke with school authorities. According to police officials, the administration defended its actions, saying it was simply upholding established school rules and discipline standards. The matter was resolved shortly after, and the affected students were permitted to return and complete their exams.
However, the interruption raised concerns within the school itself. A teacher, speaking anonymously, acknowledged that although the students were eventually allowed back, the delay had already cost them valuable exam time. The teacher suggested that such grooming-related issues should be handled outside exam hours to avoid unnecessary stress and disruption.
The school’s grooming policy reportedly requires that students maintain hair short enough that it cannot be easily gripped by hand, which appears to have been the basis for the enforcement.
The episode has since ignited widespread discussion online, with many questioning whether strict enforcement of appearance rules during exams is appropriate, and whether such actions may unfairly impact students during critical academic moments.
