Mumbai, Mar 29: The first phase of Mumbai Metro Line 9 between Kashigaon and Dahisar is likely to be inaugurated on April 3, with final approval from the Maharashtra government still awaited.
The proposed event is expected to be attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and deputy chief ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar.

The 4.5-km elevated corridor has completed trial runs and received key safety clearances. Alongside the Metro inauguration, authorities are also planning the bhoomipujan of a Pod Taxi system in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and the launch of tunnel boring machines for the Thane–Borivali tunnel project.
Officials from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority said the date is yet to be finalised. “We have requested the date and are awaiting approval,” an official stated.
Metro Line 9 is an extension of Mumbai Metro Line 7 and will enable seamless connectivity from Mira Road to Gundavli without interchange, merging at Dahisar.
Commuters can also switch at Dahisar to Mumbai Metro Line 2A for travel towards Andheri West, which further connects to Mumbai Metro Line 1 via DN Nagar.
The Phase I stretch comprises four stations—Dahisar (East), Pandurang Wadi, Miragaon, and Kashigaon—catering to the rapidly developing Mira-Bhayandar belt.
Additionally, the much-debated Golden Nest Junction flyover, which had faced criticism over lane narrowing, is also set to be opened to traffic.
The Pod Taxi project in BKC, estimated at Rs 1,016 crore under a public-private partnership model, will span 8.8 km with 38 stations and feature pods accommodating 3–6 passengers.
Meanwhile, the 11.8-km Thane–Borivali twin tunnel project will mark the launch of tunnel boring machines, with the corridor expected to reduce travel time between the two cities to around 15 minutes.
The developments are set to significantly enhance urban mobility and ease congestion across Mumbai’s western suburbs.
