Mumbai, Mar 30: In a positive environmental development, Mumbai on Sunday recorded its first ‘Good’ air quality day of 2026, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 46, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
This is also the city’s best AQI reading since October 27, 2025, when it stood at 45. Notably, the entire month of March has witnessed consistent improvement, with no ‘Poor’ AQI days recorded. All 29 days so far have remained within the ‘Satisfactory’ category.

In contrast, January saw only eight ‘Satisfactory’ days, while February recorded just seven, highlighting a marked improvement in air quality this month.
Officials said that all monitoring locations across Mumbai reported AQI levels below 100 on Sunday — the best overall performance this year. Of the 24 active monitoring stations, 14 recorded air quality in the ‘Good’ category, while the remaining 10 fell under the ‘Satisfactory’ bracket.
Among key areas, Borivli, Malad and Kandivli in the western suburbs registered the cleanest air, followed by Sewri and Sion in the eastern parts of the city. Significantly, known pollution hotspots such as Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Bandra East also reported ‘Good’ AQI levels.
The improvement is being seen as a result of favourable weather conditions and sustained pollution control measures, offering a much-needed relief to residents.
