Goa, Apr 7: A 21-year-old youth from Indore died in Goa after allegedly consuming a dangerous mix of drugs and alcohol during a trip with friends, raising fresh concerns over the availability of narcotics in the coastal state.

The deceased has been identified as Ishan Singh Badgujar, who had travelled to Goa with nine friends on April 2 for a holiday. On Saturday night, the group visited a club in Vagator, where the incident occurred.

According to reports, around midnight, Ishan began feeling uneasy following substance consumption. His friends rushed him to a private hospital in Anjuna, where he later succumbed.

Post-mortem findings revealed the presence of a cocktail of drugs and alcohol in his system. Officials said he had reportedly consumed synthetic drugs such as ecstasy and MDMA along with alcohol, a combination known to cause severe medical complications.

Doctors noted that the intake led to conditions including cerebral and pulmonary oedema, along with cardiac changes. They also suspect the drugs may have been laced with harmful substances, worsening his condition.

The incident has triggered concern over drug accessibility in Goa, a major tourist hub known for its nightlife and beach parties.

Reacting to the incident, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal questioned the ease of drug availability in the state in a post on X, stating, “A young life lost... 21-year-old boy from Indore died in Goa after consuming a deadly mix of drugs and alcohol. How are drugs so easily accessible in Goa?”

His remarks have sparked debate on social media, with many users raising alarm over the prevalence of drugs in tourist hotspots.

Officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the youth’s death.
