Karkala: Police crack house theft case within 24 hours; two arrested, stolen gold recovered

Karkala, Apr 26: The Karkala town police have successfully cracked a house theft case within 24 hours of its registration, arresting two persons and recovering stolen gold ornaments worth lakhs.

According to a complaint filed by Shankar Kulal, a resident of Pattonji Katte in Karkala, the theft took place between 9:10 am on April 23 and 6 pm on April 24. Unidentified individuals had broken into his residence by prying open the door while the house was locked.

The culprits decamped with gold ornaments stored in a cupboard, including a necklace weighing 24 grams, three rings, a bangle, and a pair of earrings. The total estimated value of the stolen items was initially reported to be around Rs 2.64 lac.

Following the complaint, a case was registered at the Karkala Town police station. Under the leadership of Karkala sub-divisional police officer Vijay Prasad, a team comprising police inspector Manjappa DR, PSI Muralidhar Nayak, PSI Shivakumar SR, and other staff initiated a swift investigation.

The police tracked down and apprehended the prime accused, Anand Kulal (40), a resident of Palejeddu, Byarampalli village in Udupi taluk, within 24 hours. Subsequent interrogation led to the arrest of Jayaram Acharya (54), a resident of Kaikamba, Ajekar Marne village, who had allegedly purchased the stolen gold.

The police recovered 39 grams of gold ornaments valued at approximately Rs 5.60 lac from the accused. Both individuals have been produced before the court, and further investigation is underway.
