Udupi, Apr 27: A heartfelt farewell was accorded to Fr Denis D’Sa, who has been transferred as the parish priest of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Udupi from St Ann’s Church, Thottam, after serving the parish for four years. The programme, held at ST Ann’s Church, Thottam on Sunday, April 26 witnessed participation from members of various faiths, reflecting the strong communal harmony fostered during his tenure.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramesh Thingalaya, president of the Interfaith Coordination Committee, lauded Fr Denis D’Sa and stated that, Thottam has become a model locality by breaking barriers of caste and religion and fostering harmony among all communities. The key person behind this achievement is Fr Denis D’Souza of Thottam Church. Fr Denis D’Souza played a significant role in bringing together people of different religions through the Interfaith Coordination Committee, fostering mutual understanding and closeness. His efforts have resulted in creating a harmonious environment, and it is hoped that this spirit of unity will continue in the future.






















Fr Denis was felicitated by the Church Pastoral Council, the Interfaith Coordination Committee, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, various church associations, organizations, and the religious sisters in recognition of his dedicated service.
In his address, Fr Denis expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the parish and acknowledged the support of the parishioners. He said that with God’s guidance and collective efforts, several developmental and spiritual initiatives could be carried out. He added that he leaves with a sense of satisfaction, having encouraged leadership and a spirit of service within the community.
Felisha D’Almeida, Venisa Pinto, Blesilla Crasta, Donath D’Almeida, and Jane D’Souza shared their experiences and appreciated his contributions.
Fr Henry Mascarenhas, currently serving at Sacred Heart Church, Ajekar, will assume charge as the new parish priest of Thottam Church in the first week of May.
Lavina Fernandes, secretary of the Church Pastoral Council, welcomed the gathering, while vice president Leslie Aroza delivered the vote of thanks. Clarence Fernandes compered the event.
Sr Sushma Lewis, head of the local convent; Fr Kumar Salins of CSI Ebenezer Church, Malpe; and Shanti Fernandes, coordinator of the 20 commissions of the Church Pastoral Council, were present on the occasion.
