Shimoga, Apr 29: 'Every dream begins with a step taken in the right direction'. With this guiding philosophy, the Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society (SMSSS) successfully concluded its Integrated Child Development Programme (ICDP) summer residential camp 2026, titled ‘RE-SHAPE'.
Across two intensive batches (April 23–24 and April 27–29), over 800 students and their parents gathered to transform their aspirations into actionable plans. The camp served as a vibrant ecosystem where education transcended the classroom, evolving into a holistic journey of self-discovery and communal growth.

The programme commenced with a powerful call to action from Dr Duming Dias, apostolic administrator of the diocese of Shimoga. In his presidential address, Dr Dias expressed deep appreciation for Fr Pius D’Souza, director of the Shimoga Multipurpose Social Service Society (SMSSS), and his dedicated staff for their proactive role in career advocacy. He lauded their efforts in creating awareness and training young minds at a foundational stage, enabling them to navigate their future professional paths with clarity. Urging those in attendance to seize the moment, he emphasized that such opportunities are vital for long-term success.
Echoing this sentiment in his keynote address, Fr Pius D’Souza explained that the core objective of the gathering was to bridge the gap between students and parents, fostering a collaborative environment where families can make informed, strategic decisions about the students' educational journeys and career trajectories.
Mapping the future: Career and character
The programme’s heart beat strongest during the comprehensive career guidance sessions. Recognizing that the modern professional landscape is vast, organizers brought in a diverse panel of experts to illuminate various pathways:
• Healthcare: Dr Sr Judy (Nirmal College of Nursing) and Ida’s team (Fr Muller Medical College) provided insights into the medical and nursing vocations.
• Technical & engineering: Franco and his team from St Joseph’s Engineering College, alongside Fr Christuraj from Don Bosco, Bhadravathi, explored the worlds of engineering, ITI, and diploma courses.
• Commerce & arts: Ganesh (Sacred Heart College) navigated the commerce stream, while Sr Joyal and team SRA, Supriya V and Ebinazor Simon sparked creativity with sessions on arts and the growing freelance economy.
Beyond technical skills, the camp prioritized the ‘human’ element. Fr Roman Pinto delivered a stirring session on ‘Mindset,’ challenging students to dismantle self-doubt and approach their futures with resilience.
A digital and social balance
In an era of constant connectivity, the ‘RE-SHAPE’ camp addressed the realities of the 21st century. Nikhil led a critical session on internet safety, equipping students with the tools to navigate the digital world responsibly.
The evenings were reserved for connection and culture. Under the leadership of Br Rolson D’Souza and Br Bleston Lobo, students engaged in team-building activities that dissolved barriers and forged new friendships. A lively cultural programme showcased the students' hidden talents through skits and dance, proving that growth is as much about joy as it is about study.
Reflection and renewal
The second day of each batch offered a change of pace, beginning with silent meditation and an inter-religious prayer service. This moment of peace allowed participants to internalize the lessons of the previous day.
The camp concluded with a heartfelt sharing session where students expressed how the experience had cleared the ‘fog’ of uncertainty regarding their futures. From individual photo sessions for official documentation to the final group cleaning of the grounds, the spirit of service and organization remained constant.
A lasting impact
While the ‘RE-SHAPE’ camp 2026 has officially closed its doors, the impact on its 800+ participants is only just beginning. By bringing together dedicated resource persons and a curriculum that balances professional guidance with spiritual reflection, SMSSS has ensured that these students return home not just with information, but with clarity and confidence.
As the final the students departed, the sentiment of the week remained clear: When the mind is guided and the heart is inspired, every dream finds its path.
