Mangaluru, May 3: Two separate accidents occurred in quick succession at the Haleangadi junction in Mulki on May 2 evening, resulting in a traffic jam on the highway for over half an hour.

In the first incident, a tanker carrying chemicals from Mangaluru toward Ballari applied sudden brakes near the junction due to the placement of barricades. A car traveling from Kasargod to the Kollur temple, carrying a family, crashed into the rear of the tanker. While the front of the car was damaged, all occupants escaped unhurt.

In the second accident, a car heading from Mangaluru toward Udupi was hit from behind by another tanker while attempting to take a turn near the divider, causing damage to the right side of the vehicle.

The back-to-back mishaps caused a severe gridlock on the highway, with vehicles lined up as far as the Pavanje temple. Heavy congestion was also reported on the interior roads of Haleangadi.

Mangaluru traffic police visited the spot to conduct an inspection, and traffic flow was eventually restored after the accidental vehicles were cleared.
