Moodbidri, May 4: A five-year-old girl originally from Shirthady, Moodbidri, was killed in a car accident near Ansar Mall on the Sharjah-Dubai border on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Fatima Aniha, the daughter of Hakeem, a resident of Shirthady currently employed in Sharjah.

The incident occurred while the family was preparing to enter their car after finishing a shopping trip. A speeding vehicle coming from behind crashed into them, resulting in the young girl's death on the spot.

In a tragic coincidence, Aniha was set to celebrate her fifth birthday on June 2, the same day her visa was scheduled to expire. She was the only daughter in the family and had three brothers. Family sources have stated that the funeral rites will be performed in Sharjah.

The tragic death of five-year-old Fatima Aniha near the Sharjah–Dubai border is a heartbreaking reminder of how fragile life can be—and how negligence on the road can shatter families in an instant. What should have been an ordinary evening after a family shopping trip turned into an unimaginable loss, as a speeding vehicle struck the child, taking her life on the spot. No words can truly comfort the grieving parents, who not only lost their only daughter but now face a lifetime shaped by this irreversible absence. The cruel coincidence that Aniha’s fifth birthday—and even her visa expiry—fell just weeks away deepens the sorrow surrounding this incident. A young life full of promise was cut short due to what appears to be reckless driving, an issue that continues to claim innocent lives despite repeated warnings and regulations. In the aftermath of such tragedies, there are often discussions around compensation or so-called “blood money.” While legal frameworks may provide for financial settlements, it is important to recognize that no amount of money can equate to the value of a human life—especially that of a child. Accepting monetary compensation should never become a societal expectation placed upon grieving families, nor should it be seen as a substitute for accountability. Instead, the focus must remain firmly on justice and responsibility. Authorities must ensure that those responsible for such negligence face appropriate consequences under the law. Equally important is the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, particularly against speeding, which continues to be one of the leading causes of fatal accidents. To the bereaved parents, society owes not advice, but solidarity. This is a time for compassion, not pressure. Their grief is theirs alone to carry, and any decisions they make—legal or personal—must be respected without judgment or influence. Aniha’s death should not become just another statistic. It must serve as a wake-up call.
