New Delhi, May 7: The Election Commission of India on Wednesday said more than 68 lakh cyberattack attempts targeting its key digital election platforms were successfully blocked on the day of counting for the recently concluded Assembly elections.

According to the poll body, the attacks originated from both domestic and international sources and targeted crucial systems, including the election results portal, on May 4 when votes were counted for Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, Assam and the Union Territory of Puducherry.

In a statement, the Election Commission said the cybersecurity framework of its digital platform ECINET effectively countered all malicious attempts and ensured uninterrupted functioning of election-related services.

The Commission noted that ECINET played a major role in streamlining the election process by enabling real-time monitoring, faster reporting and improved transparency during polling and counting operations.

Launched officially in January, the ECINET platform has reportedly crossed 10 crore downloads. Its beta version was first used during the Bihar Assembly elections in November 2025.

The Election Commission further stated that ECINET recorded over 98.3 crore hits on polling days held on April 9, 23 and 29. On the counting day alone, the system reportedly handled an average of three crore hits every minute.

In another first, the Commission introduced a QR code-based photo identity card system at counting centres across all states and Union Territories during these elections.

Officials said over 3.2 lakh QR codes were generated on counting day to ensure access only to authorised personnel and strengthen security arrangements at counting venues.
