Mangaluru, May 11: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) in collaboration with the Forest Department, ICYM Mangalore south deanery, ECD and city deanery organized a Mangrove plantation drive at Kallapu and Thokkottu on May 3.
The programme was conducted with the objective of creating environmental awareness and protecting the coastal ecosystem through large-scale mangrove plantation activities. The initiative also highlighted the importance of conserving mangroves, which play a vital role in preventing coastal erosion and maintaining ecological balance.




RFO Rajesh, ICYM director Fr Ashwin Cardoza, president Vijoy and secretary Maria, Social Cause secretary Muriel Mascarenhas, along with several enthusiastic youth members and volunteers, youth of different parishes actively participated in the drive. Around 5,000 mangrove saplings were planted successfully during the programme, marking a significant contribution towards environmental conservation.
Participants worked together with great dedication and teamwork throughout the event. The plantation drive spread a strong message on the need to preserve nature and encouraged the younger generation to take active responsibility in safeguarding the environment for the future.
The organisers expressed gratitude to all volunteers, forest officials and supporters who contributed to the success of the initiative and reaffirmed their commitment towards promoting eco-friendly activities in the region.
