Chennai, May 12: Actor Arjun Radhakrishnan, best known for portraying former President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam in the acclaimed web series Rocket Boys, is set to headline National Award-winning filmmaker Salim Ahamed’s upcoming feature film Left Over.
Produced by Newton Cinema, the film marks Salim Ahamed’s fifth directorial venture and is already generating attention within independent cinema circles.
The cast of Left Over also includes Zarin Shihab, Tanmay Dhanania, Shweta Basu Prasad, and Roshan Mathew.

The screenplay has been written by Salim Ahamed and P. V. Shajikumar, while the technical crew features cinematographer Sharan Velayudhan, editor A. Sreekar Prasad, music composer Christo Xavier, and sound designer Vishnu Govind, among others.
Salim Ahamed is widely recognised for Adaminte Makan Abu, which won four National Film Awards and was selected as India’s official entry to the Academy Awards. His previous works also include Pathemari, Kunjananthante Kada, and And the Oscar Goes To....
Speaking about the project, Ahamed described Left Over as a film rooted in “silence, memory and moral urgency,” adding that it explores pain and human dignity in a deeply emotional yet understated manner.
He said the film seeks to portray a universal human experience that transcends borders and expressed gratitude for collaborating with Newton Cinema to introduce the project to the international film industry.
The makers have announced that details regarding the film’s world premiere will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Newton Cinema has also made its debut at the Marché du Film during the Cannes Film Festival with a screening of Mayilaa, directed by Semmalar Annam, at Lérins Cinéma Club on May 12.
The production house’s Cannes slate further includes The Gambler by acclaimed Sri Lankan filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage. The film stars Roshan Mathew, Shweta Basu Prasad, Prakash Raj, Mahendra Perera, and Lakshan Abeynayake.
Newton Cinema CEO Anto Chittilappilly said the company aims to support auteur-driven cinema and provide a platform for independent filmmakers whose stories reflect strong artistic identity and social consciousness.
