Hebri, May 13: A woman from Hebri was allegedly cheated of Rs 29.42 lac by fraudsters who lured her into a fake online trading and investment scheme through a Facebook advertisement.

According to the complaint filed by Shobha, on January 13, she came across a Facebook advertisement promising a monthly income of Rs 28,000 on an investment of Rs 21,000 and inviting users to register. After entering her phone number, she received a call from persons claiming to be representatives of ‘9 Pro Trading Company.’ They persuaded her to register and initially invest Rs 21,000.

Believing their claims, the complainant transferred Rs 21,000 through Google Pay by scanning the QR code sent by the accused. Later, the fraudsters created an account in the name of ‘9 Pro Company’ and informed her that trading activities had begun.

On January 14, a person identifying himself as finance advisor Jitesh Kumar contacted her and claimed that her investment had earned a profit of Rs 1,200 within two days. The amount was reportedly credited to her Canara Bank account at the Kooradi branch to gain her confidence.

During the conversation, the accused allegedly asked about her purpose for trading. When she informed them that she had debts of around Rs 10-15 lac and wanted to clear them, they convinced her that investing Rs 10 lac in gold trading would yield huge profits and help her repay her loans within a month.

Trusting their assurances, the complainant pledged her gold and, following instructions from Jitesh Kumar, Veer Rawat, and others, transferred money online to various bank accounts in multiple installments between January 21 and May 9.

In total, the accused allegedly collected Rs 29,42,940 from the complainant and later failed to return the money, thereby cheating and betraying her trust.

Based on the complaint, Hebri Police Station has registered a case.
