Udupi, May 14: Alleging that the state Congress government has been neglecting the development of Udupi district, BJP Yuva Morcha district president Prithviraj Shetty announced that a black flag protest will be staged against the district in-charge minister on May 16.
Addressing a press conference in Udupi, he said that since coming to power in May 2023, the Congress-led state government has adopted a discriminatory attitude towards Udupi district and has failed to address key developmental issues affecting the people.

He alleged that the Namma Bus service, which was introduced in Udupi city in 2013 with more than 40 buses, has been severely affected after the implementation of the government’s guarantee schemes, including free travel for women. According to him, nearly 50 percent of the buses have now been reduced, causing inconvenience to the public.
Prithviraj Shetty further accused the government of delaying the completion of the Udupi District Hospital works, thereby putting the lives of poor patients at risk. He also alleged that the government had promised financial assistance for the Paryaya celebrations in Udupi but later failed to release adequate funds, which he termed as an injustice to the Hindu community.
Criticising the state government over the ongoing surveyors’ strike, he said that land surveyors working on a contract basis under the Revenue Department have been protesting for the last two months demanding fulfilment of their long-pending demands. Despite public inconvenience caused due to the strike, the government has remained indifferent, he alleged.
Demanding immediate action to resolve the issues faced by the district, he announced that BJP Yuva Morcha, under the leadership of its Udupi district unit, will organise a black flag protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Udupi at 10 am on May 16 against the district in-charge minister.
State Yuva Morcha secretary Vikhyath Shetty and general secretary Abhiraj Suvarna were also present at the press conference.
