Thane, May 16: A 52-year-old man from Thane is feared to have drowned in the Mithbunder creek after he went missing and his footwear was discovered along the creek’s edge, officials said.

The missing man has been identified as Datta Shinalkar, a resident of Kopri. According to Yasin Tadvi, in-charge of the Regional Disaster Management Cell, Shinalkar had left his home on Wednesday morning but could not be contacted afterwards.

Concerned over his disappearance, family members informed authorities the following day. During the investigation, CCTV footage reportedly showed Shinalkar walking towards the Mithbunder creek around Wednesday noon.

Officials later found his footwear abandoned near the banks of the creek, raising fears that he may have accidentally drowned.
A search operation involving disaster management teams and local fishermen was launched on Thursday. Despite extensive efforts, no trace of the missing man could be found. The search was eventually suspended late Friday night.

Authorities suspect that Shinalkar may have drowned in the creek, though further investigation is underway.
