Bantwal, May 16: Former Bantwal taluk panchayat member Prabhakar Prabhu has appealed to citizens to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for the judicious use of fuel amid rising global crude oil prices and emerging concerns over possible supply disruptions.

In a press statement, Prabhu said the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Iran and Israel has triggered a surge in global oil prices, while several countries are already reporting indications of fuel shortages. He stressed that India must take precautionary steps in anticipation of future challenges.

He pointed out that India imports nearly 90 per cent of its fuel requirements and underlined the need to remain alert to a potential fuel crisis. “Every citizen must heed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for the judicious use of fuel,” he said.

Prabhu urged people to reduce the use of private vehicles in non-essential travel and instead rely more on public transport such as buses and trains, stating that such collective action would serve national interest. He added that the Prime Minister has only appealed for reduced fuel consumption and lower gold purchases, without imposing any compulsion or pressure.

He further observed that several senior leaders and government officials have already curtailed the use of official vehicles as part of fuel-saving measures, describing it as an example of civic responsibility and patriotism.

Referring to earlier awareness campaigns by state governments and various organisations on water and electricity conservation, Prabhu said citizens, including those in coastal Karnataka, should respond responsibly and support the Prime Minister’s appeal in the larger national interest.
