Car crushed in LPG truck collision near Uppinangady; five family members battling for life

Puttur, Jun 2: In a tragic road accident, five members of a family sustained critical injuries after an LPG cylinder-laden truck collided with their car near Koottelu in Uppinangady on Monday night.

Sources said the victims, residents of Nakre in Karkala taluk, were on their way to the pilgrimage centre of Subrahmanya in a WagonR car when the mishap occurred. The accident took place near Koottelu when a truck transporting cooking gas cylinders reportedly rammed into the vehicle, leaving it badly mangled.

The injured have been identified as Deepak (45), who was driving the car, Gururaj (46), Dhanush (15), Bharathi (48) and Geetha (55). All five suffered serious injuries and were shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru for advanced treatment. Their condition is said to be critical.

The truck driver, Damodar, escaped unhurt.

Local residents, including U T Fayaz, Vidyadhara Jain, Zakariya and others, rushed to the spot and helped rescue the injured from the wreckage before arranging their transportation to the hospital.

Puttur Traffic police have registered a case and initiated further investigation into the incident.
