Mumbai, Jun 4: A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable posted at the CISF office in Mahim Police Colony fell victim to cyber fraud after fraudsters allegedly hacked his mobile phone and gained access to his bank account, resulting in a loss of Rs 95,668.
According to police, the incident came to light on May 30 when the constable noticed unusual activity on his mobile phone. The device reportedly began restarting on its own, while several installed applications were automatically deleted without his intervention.

After some time, the phone resumed normal functioning. Assuming it was a technical issue, the constable reinstalled the PhonePe application on his device. However, when he checked his bank account balance, he discovered that Rs 95,668 had been withdrawn without his knowledge or authorisation.
Realising he had been defrauded, the constable immediately contacted his bank and requested that his account be blocked to prevent any further unauthorised transactions.
Bank officials reportedly informed him that his mobile phone appeared to have been compromised and that cyber criminals had gained access to his banking details, using them to transfer money through online transactions.
The constable subsequently contacted the national cybercrime helpline and lodged a complaint with the Mahim police.
Based on the complaint, police have registered an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to cheating, along with sections of the Information Technology Act.
An investigation has been launched to identify the accused and trace the stolen funds. Police are also examining the mode of intrusion used by the fraudsters to gain access to the victim's mobile device and banking account.
