National-level powerlifter Santosh Poojary dies after fall from building during welding work

Mangaluru, Jun 5: National-level powerlifter Santosh Poojary died after falling from the fourth floor of a new building near Padavinangady while carrying out welding work.

The deceased has been identified as Santosh Poojary (45), a resident of Dharmanagar, Ullal. He is survived by his wife and mother. Santosh was a member of Shakti Bharat Gymnasium in Thokkottu and was a national-level powerlifter.

A resident of Dharmanagar, Santosh had been working as a welder in Muscat. He had returned to his hometown for his marriage and later chose to settle here permanently. After returning from abroad, he started his own welding shop at Ullal Baila. His wife is currently employed overseas.

Santosh's welding shop is located opposite Shakti Bharat Gymnasium at Bhatnagar. He had won medals once at the national level and three times at the state level. He had also secured a gold medal in district-level competitions.

According to his close associates, Santosh had recently won a gold medal at the state-level Masters competition and was preparing to participate in the national-level championship scheduled to be held in Aurangabad from July 18. His untimely death has shocked the local sporting community and his well-wishers.
