Three Africa returnees placed under home isolation in Chhattisgarh amid Ebola precaution measures

Durg, Jun 5: Three individuals who recently returned to Chhattisgarh's Durg district from African nations affected by the Ebola virus have been placed under 21-day home isolation as a precautionary measure, health officials said.

According to district authorities, a woman arrived from the Democratic Republic of Congo on May 31, while two other travellers reached Bhilai on June 2 from Ethiopia and Uganda.

Durg Collector Abhijeet Singh said that all three travellers are currently healthy, showing no symptoms of Ebola infection and having no known contact with infected persons.

“As none of them have symptoms and there is no history of exposure, they have been placed under home isolation for 21 days as a preventive measure. Their health condition remains stable,” Singh stated.

Health officials are closely monitoring the trio through twice-daily telephonic follow-ups, collecting updates on their health every morning and evening. The travellers have also been instructed to immediately alert health authorities if they develop any symptoms or discomfort during the observation period.

Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Manoj Dani said international passengers arriving from Ebola-affected countries are being clinically screened and categorised according to their risk levels.

Under the classification system, Category 1 includes travellers with no symptoms and no contact history, Category 2 covers those without symptoms but with known exposure, while Category 3 consists of symptomatic individuals.

“All three travellers in Durg fall under Category 1 and are considered low-risk. However, monitoring is being carried out strictly as per protocol,” Dr Dani said.

Officials confirmed that no Ebola case has been detected in Chhattisgarh so far. The precautionary measures come after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on May 17.
