Kundapur, Jun 8: World Environment Day was observed with great significance at Moodlakatte Institute of Technology, Kundapur (MITK), on June 5. The college organized a special awareness program under this year's global theme, ‘Serve BRICS 2026: Volunteering for a Better Tomorrow'.
The programme was inaugurated by chief guest Tulasi, range forest officer, Social Forestry Division, Kundapur, who planted a sapling on the college campus to mark the occasion.
Addressing the students, Tulasi emphasized that environmental conservation should not be limited to a single day of celebration. "As technology advances, the pressure on nature continues to increase. Students, as future engineers, must give priority to eco-friendly innovations and take responsibility for planting and nurturing trees in their daily lives," she said.

Another chief guest, Nagesh Billava, deputy range forest officer, highlighted the importance of forests and environmental protection. "The survival of humankind depends on the preservation of forests and the environment. Developing voluntary concern and responsibility towards nature among the younger generation is the need of the hour," he remarked.
The programme was presided over by Dr Ramakrishna Hegde, principal of MIT Kundapur, who spoke about the significance of environmental conservation and the role of educational institutions in promoting sustainable practices.
During the programme, participants took a pledge to protect the environment. As part of the celebration, students actively participated in a campus cleanliness drive and a tree plantation campaign, reaffirming their commitment to building a greener and more sustainable future.
The event organizer professor Balanageshwar, faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students, participated in the event.
